This morning, I spoke with someone who’s about to launch a free tech training to build a community.
He asked me to review his flyer and banner ads.
So I took a look and asked a few simple questions:
“Who is this training for?”
He hesitated.
“Beginners?” he said with uncertainty.
After a bit more probing, we confirmed it was for beginners.
Then I asked:
“Will beginners understand this tech term in your headline?”
I pointed it out.
He paused.
The answer was no.
So I asked one final question:
“How would you explain this headline to someone who never went to school?”
He thought about it, then gave me a simple, clear, easy-to-understand version.
“That’s your headline,” I told him.
And I explained why that version would work better.
Will he use it?
I’m not sure. Most people ignore free advice even when it’s valuable.
Especially other experts who don’t understand the power of clarity… or the basic principles of copywriting.
What I shared with him was just one simple copywriting principle.
But that one tweak could mean the difference between 10 people showing up… and 190 showing up.
There are dozens more of these kinds of powerful yet simple lessons in my Comprehensive Copywriting Programme.
