Copywriting niches: When to niche down

Yesterday, I chatted with someone who delayed to invest in my copywriting program. 

" What's stopping you from taking action?"

" I want to take a course on financial copywriting, " she replied.

"Have you learnt copywriting yet?" 

"No" 

So I had to educate her.

"If you want to branch into financial copywriting, you must first learn copywriting."

" Because financial copywriting is just a niche"

" And you'll apply the copywriting secrets you know to write in that niche"

She said "that's the first time I'm hearing that."

Apparently, she thought copywriting and financial copywriting were 100% different. 

Which is false.

So I'm sending this email to you just in case you didn't know this too.

Here's the main lesson here.

You have to learn the fundamentals of copywriting first before niching down.

Especially if you're niching by industry. 

So if you want to become a health copywriter,  learn copywriting in general first before niching down. 

If you want to write emails for fitness brands, learn email copywriting first before focusing on the niche.

And so on and so forth.
